Reviving Your Skin, Naturally

reviving your skin naturally

When the central heating comes on the odd skin dilemma is inevitable. Whether you’re suffering with a few breakouts or dry and lacklustre skin, fear not, there is a way to get your skin back on top form!

There are hundreds of ways that you can improve your skin, today we will be concentrating on the natural ways that you can heal and revive your skin.

Where to Begin Reviving Your Skin, Naturally

One of the most common misconceptions about skincare is that you need to use chemical filled products to see results, this is simply not the case. There are several things you need to be looking out for when it comes to skincare:-

  • Find out what your problem areas are (this can be tougher than you think!)

  • Source your products carefully

  • Carry out proper research

  • Test, Test, Test your products! The last thing you want is a nasty reaction

These are just a handful of ways that you can ensure you’re using the best products for your skin and do not let a high price tag put you off, we’re not saying all high end products are the best, far from it, but there are certain times when spending £50-£100 on a moisturiser is an absolute must, after all if you buy cheap you buy twice!

What are the essentials?

As a general rule your skincare regime should consist of the following:-

  • Facewash

  • Cleanser

  • Toner

  • Moisturiser

  • Eye Cream (it’s never to early to start some good old anti-age eye cream, remember prevention is better than cure :) )

Now, we’re not necessarily saying you need to purchase all of these products, nor is this an exhaustive list, but the more effort and research you put into your skin care regime the better results you will see, there are of course the exceptions to the rule, those glamazon like creatures who wake up looking like a Victoria’s Secret model, with not so much as a smidge of Nivea on their skin, however, don’t panic these ladies are a rarity and with the right skin care plan, you too can look just as fresh faced, just with a tiny bit more work, think of a swan on the river, looking elegant, while their feet are going great guns underneath the water!

What is my Skin Type?

Your skin type can change over time, however there are generally only 4 main groups of skin type, normal, dry, combination & oily, finding out what skin type you have is incredibly simple and can also help you choose the right products for your skin.

So how can you find out what skin type you have? Well, you can use our checklist for each type below.

Normal

Normal skin is skin which is not too dry and not too oily. It also has the following characteristics:-

  • No or few imperfections

  • No severe sensitivity

  • Barely visible pores

  • A radiant complexion

Dry

Dry skin can be identified by seeing/feeling areas of dry, flaky, possibly scaly areas around your face. Dry skin can be identified by the following:-

  • Almost invisible pores

  • Dull, rough complexion

  • Red patches

  • Less elasticity

  • More visible lines

Oily

It isn’t just teenagers that suffer with oily skin, us adults can fall foul to this skin type to! There are several reasons why oily skin occurs, it may be a hormonal imbalance or it could be down to an over active sebaceous gland, these produce excess sebum, or oil, that contributes to the look of oily skin.

Oily skin can be identified by the following:-

  • Enlarged pores

  • Dull or shiny, thick complexion

  • Blackheads, pimples, or other blemishes

Combination

Combination skin normally indicated that you will have dry or normal skin in some areas and oily skin in others, such as the nose, forehead and chin. Many people have combination skin, which may benefit from slightly different types of skin care in different areas.

Combination skin has the following characteristics:-

  • Overly dilated pores

  • Blackheads

  • Shiny skin

This is just a brief overview of each skin type, there is of course a mountain of information available online or from a dermatologist. Once you find out your skin type the real fun can begin, your skin care regime will be turned upside down and we can assure you that you will never look back!
